Terminology
It will annoy the pedants, but “soccer’ is the term used most often in this chronology, as opposed to “football” (which is considered more anatomically correct these days).
That is simply because it reflects the prevailing terminology, both in official releases and media reporting during bulk of the period covered.
During this time frame the national body went form being New Zealand Football Association to Soccer New Zealand, then New Zealand Soccer, and, after 2004, New Zealand Football.

Bruce Holloway is a former Waikato Times journalist, and was also editor of Sitter! fanzine from 1997-2005. In 2012 his book, The Waikato Chronicles, was named football publication of the year. He has previously served on Waikato United and Waikato FC boards and has been chairman of Melville United AFC since November 2004. He watched his first national league match in 1977.
